December 2010

On the eve of World AIDS day Isha Outreach organized a mass awareness meet for 1500 students. The program was held in Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Palladam. Students from Government Girls High school and Blue Bird Matriculation Higher Secondary School also participated.

Sri Ramamoorthy, President Municipality Palladam was the guest of honour. Dr. Krishnamoorthy, Former Director of APAC was the key note speaker. Dr. Krishnamoorthy addressed students on the need
for preventive measures with respect to HIV/AIDS. He threw light on various aspects of the disease. He emphasized the need to lead a disciplined sexual life and recommended that students follow the approporate discretion in making different life choices. Shri. Ramamoorthy also underscored the need to uphold a disciplined and healthy sexual life.

‘Kalaimamani Muthulakshmi’ troop performed ‘Villupattu’ (an ancient form of musical story-telling) about modes of spreading HIV/AIDS and preventive measures. A street play was staged by ‘Latchiyam’ troop from Coimbatore involving active participation from the students. Misconceptions about the spread of disease were dispelled and inclusiveness towards people infected and stigmatized by the disease was poured into young hearts.

Even though it rained heavily the enthusiastic students stood by with undeterred enthusiasm for the oath-taking ceremony . They all pledged their support towards 'No new infections by 2012'.
