Story of Devi

“When I was doing chemical farming, I was not making money because the expenses were almost equal to whatever income I was getting. In fact, sometimes I had to invest money from other sources into agriculture to meet out the expenses. At this point I used to think if I should continue agriculture or if I should just give up. Many such questions used to haunt me every day. That is when I got the opportunity to attend the 8-day 'Zero Budget' training program conducted by Subhash Palekar, organized by Project GreenHands in December 2015.

When I was engaged in chemical farming, for a 70-day crop of onion, I used to add chemical fertilizer 13 times. I was concerned about the amount of pesticide that was getting into the crop. I always wondered if what I am doing is right because I am providing food to people and this thought kept on pestering me. The answer to this came in Palekar ji’s class. After attending the program, I have converted my farm into a natural farm with zero chemical inputs. Many people have started coming to my farm to see what we are doing. They are very interested to know the methods and techniques employed by us. Natural farming has given us the confidence that we will be able to make a successful living. Not just that, we are providing good food to everyone from my farm. I am grateful to Isha Agro Movement team for their constant support and guidance provided."
