Story of Nanda Kumar

Nanda Kumar hailing from Erode district in Tamil Nadu.

“Though I am astrologer by profession, I have always wanted to plant trees in my farmland. But I had no idea where to start or how to do things. This is where Isha stepped in and helped me follow my passion. One of my friends introduced me to GreenHands nursery in Mettur. I visited the nursery and was astonished to see the quality of saplings they produce. The saplings were thriving and I was informed that they use only organic growth promoters and no chemicals to grow saplings. While conversing with the nursery incharge, I came to know about the agro-forestry project. I told them details of my farmland and they gave me the contact number of Agro-forestry consultant.

The Agro forestry team came on a field visit to my farmland. They saw the soil type, irrigation facility and climatic situation and suggested a combination of trees that I could plant. I procured 2,000 trees from Isha nursery and planted it in my 8 Acres farmland. I have installed drip irrigation system in my field and it has helped me tackle water issues by reducing evaporation and deep drainage. Isha also gave me tips on controlling weeds in farmland by applying techniques of horse gram cropping. I also learnt about multi cropping and am now eager to try out new things. The trees planted in my farmland are growing well and I am very happy that I am able to fulfill my passion of planting trees.
